Where to stay in Geelong
Stay on the waterfront at the Crowne Plaza or Novotel if you have no car and want the bay at the door.

Council parking in central Geelong costs $3.80 an hour or $15.90 a day in the Haymarket and Busport car parks, and $10.30 all day on a few outer streets. Garden St and Hearne Pde near Eastern Beach are free all day. Coins are being phased out, so carry a card or use EasyPark.
Park in a council car park or at a meter and pay by card or the EasyPark app. In central Geelong that costs $3.80 an hour, $15.90 all day in the Haymarket and Busport car parks, or $10.30 all day on a handful of outer streets. For free parking, go to Garden St or Hearne Pde above Eastern Beach, both free all day. On Kardinia Park game days there is no public parking at the ground.
Central Geelong has more than 4,700 off-street and 5,400 on-street spaces, according to the City of Greater Geelong. Time limits are shorter in the inner core and longer further out. The council’s parking options page is the official source for rates and zones; this guide is independent and not part of the council.
Checked October 2026, from the council’s parking pages (last updated 1 and 13 October 2026) and the operators’ own sites.

The closest council parking to Cunningham Pier and the Carousel: 50 spaces at $3.80 an hour, with a 3-hour limit. Three hours covers lunch on the pier and a walk along the waterfront.
For a full day by the bay, the north side of Western Beach Rd between Gheringhap and Cavendish streets is $10.30 all day. The Cunningham Pier car park (199 spaces) is private, so check the operator’s board at the entrance.
Wilson Parking runs a 24-hour underground car park at the Nyaal Banyul convention centre, 7 Cavendish St, connected to the Crowne Plaza. We could not find its rates.
These are the free all-day options, right above Eastern Beach. The council lists 230 spaces at Hearne Pde. Free and close to the water means they go first on a summer day, so arrive early or have Ritchie Blvd as the backup.
Ritchie Blvd beyond Geelong Yacht Club is $10.30 all day and has 248 spaces. On peak summer days the council has used traffic crews here, letting cars in only as spaces free up. If you are staying in the CBD, walking is quicker: the beach is about 16 minutes from the pier.
On Myers St, on the south side of the CBD, with 274 metered spaces at $3.80 an hour or $15.90 all day. It is the obvious council car park for a day in town.
Level 2 of the Busport has 124 casual spaces at $15.90 a day, paid only through EasyPark. It opens 6 am to 11 pm, and every Friday the all-day rate is half price.
Westfield’s 1,700-space car park, entered from Brougham or Yarra St, charges non-members $2 for the first hour, rising to $35 for six hours or more. Enter after 6 pm and it is free, which makes it handy for dinner or a show. Members get the first 2 hours for $1 on weekdays and free on Saturday and Sunday.
Geelong Arts Centre has no car park of its own and points visitors to the street and council car parks. The nearest is Little Malop St, with 141 spaces. Its rate is not listed, so check the meter. Allow extra time when two events overlap.
Market Square has 600 private spaces; we could not confirm its current rates. Wilson Parking at 21 Gheringhap St is open 24 hours, with a Flexi Saver rate of $17 to $19 depending on demand and overnight parking from $25 for 1 to 3 nights prepaid.
Coins are being phased out at central Geelong meters from 9 March 2026. You can pay by card at the meter (0.25% surcharge) or through EasyPark, the only app the council names. Casual EasyPark use adds an 11.5% commission to the parking fee, so a $10.30 day becomes about $11.48. A subscription costs $1.99 a month plus 2.25% per transaction, which only pays off if you park often.
The council pages do not publish paid hours, so read the sign on your bay. We have seen a claim that on-street parking is free at weekends, but no council source confirms it.
Council meters are free on public holidays, though private car parks may still charge. Geelong Cup Day, Wednesday 21 October 2026, is a local public holiday and a free parking day. Melbourne Cup Day is not a holiday in Geelong, so fees apply.
There is no general public parking at Kardinia Park for events. Disability permit holders get limited spaces at Gate B6. Part of Moorabool St closes 60 minutes before and 30 minutes after each event, speed limits drop around the precinct all day, and taxis use a rank on Verner St. The easiest plan is the train to South Geelong, about 450 m from the ground. Our GMHBA Stadium guide has the rest of the match-day detail.

Updated
Yes, in a few places. The council lists Garden St at the Eastern Beach end and Hearne Pde above Eastern Beach as free all day. Council meters are also free on public holidays, including Geelong Cup Day on Wednesday 21 October 2026. Westfield Geelong is free if you enter after 6 pm. We could not confirm that on-street parking is free on weekends, so read the signs.
The council's Western Beach car park beside Cunningham Pier costs $3.80 an hour with a 3-hour limit, checked October 2026. Western Beach Rd, on the north side between Gheringhap and Cavendish streets, is $10.30 all day. The Cunningham Pier car park has 199 spaces but is privately run, so its rates are set by the operator and shown at the entrance.
Not at the ground. Kardinia Park says there is no general public parking for events, only limited spaces for disability permit holders at Gate B6. Part of Moorabool St closes 60 minutes before and 30 minutes after each event. Park in the CBD and walk, or take the train to South Geelong station, about 450 m from the stadium.
Less and less. The City of Greater Geelong started phasing out coins at central Geelong meters from 9 March 2026. Pay by card at the meter, which adds a 0.25% surcharge, or use the EasyPark app. Casual EasyPark use adds an 11.5% commission on top of the parking fee, so a $15.90 day costs about $17.73 through the app.
Most CBD hotels do, checked October 2026. Rydges Geelong is about $27 a night, Quest Geelong Central about $28, Holiday Inn & Suites about $35 and Crowne Plaza valet about $45 a day. Several have limited spaces that you must book ahead. Bayside Geelong says parking is free for direct bookings, subject to availability. The Comfort Inn has no on-site parking at all.
